Sustainability
We take a proactive approach to sustainability. We aim to be a sustainable organisation and we work with clients and suppliers to ensure that all our endeavours are strategically and culturally implemented to achieve economic development, social enrichment, and environmental protection. We believe that becoming a more sustainable business will help us become a more successful business.
In order to become a more sustainable business we recruit, develop and retain excellent people, helping us to our ability to win more work and our ability to improve our profitability.
We are very proud of Hooker Cockram’s record in sustainable development and the many examples and best practice from across the group, including:
- We have initiated training for several of our key senior staff to be accredited Green Star ™ professionals. Green Star ™ is the officially recognised environmental rating system for buildings in Australia, led by the Green building Council of Australia.
- We operate under an accredited ISO14001 management system in Australia and we develop project specific Environmental Management Plans (EMP).
- We have constructed numerous environmentally sustainable buildings including the award-winning Hume City Council Offices, which achieved a 5-Star Green Star rating.
- We aim to benefit society and have implemented the Community 2-day initiative, where staff members are offered paid leave to allow them to undertake volunteer work with a charity or community organisation of their choice. This initiative started in Australia and is rolling out to all divisions.
